Our LASIK Process
1. Free Consultation
The first step to deciding if LASIK is the right procedure for you is getting a LASIK consultation by calling (208) 667-2531 or requesting an appointment online.
After scheduling a free consultation, the physician will evaluate your eyes by running a few tests on the cornea, which will take about 15 – 20 minutes. It’s important to know at North Idaho Eye, the physician will be doing the consultation and you will definitively know if you are a candidate for surgery on the day of your consultation.
2. Preparation
Following the examination by the doctor, our refractive coordinator will speak to you regarding the process of the LASIK procedure and what to expect during the days leading up to surgery.
3. Surgery Day
On the day of surgery, we want to make sure you are comfortable as possible. When you arrive, we’ll give you medication to help you relax and put numbing drops on the surface of the eye. You’ll head back to surgery which takes 20-30 minutes.
At the end of the procedure, the doctor will look into your eyes and make sure everything is in the proper position. We recommend you go home and sleep 5-6 hours to help the healing process.
You should arrange a ride home, as you will not be able to drive after your procedure. Recovering from LASIK is famously easy, although there are some aftercare procedures you will need to follow to ensure proper healing.
4. Post-Surgery and Results
Although the vision can fluctuate after surgery, many people will see a dramatic improvement within the 5-6 hours.
Within the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery, you will be scheduled for your post-operative visit at the clinic. The doctor will remove your eye shield, test your vision, and examine the eye. You may be provided eye drops to take home to help prevent infection and/or inflammation.
